Abstract

Eight medieval Croatian Glagolitic texts are, through their essential formal and thematic features (verbal conflict of opposed characters, composition built on anthitesis, binarity, didactic function, nonfictionality, specific allegory) members of a common genre - contrasts. In their titles however they have various
terms, such as ctenie, ucenie, slovo,.pren’e, prigovarane, govoren’e, videnie which should not be viewed as "genre signals" in the strict sense, i. e. signals which indicate the belonging of a text to a certain genre.
In the paper the term small contrasts is proposed for those disputes which are episodes within texts of different narrative or didactic genres.
