Abstract

The Yugoslav Association for Research and Promotion of Maritime Affairs, ''Brodospas'' (Split), INA-Naftaplin (Zagreb) and the Yugoslav marine ports, organized in Split (22-24 May 1990) a Conference on salvage of ships and prevention of pollution in the Adriatic sea.
The Conference was attended by about 150 participants. In the three working days were presented 40 papers all later issued in a special publication.
The intention of the organizers was to reach certain conclusions which might help in the creation of an anti-pollution programme. The main conclusions reached on the last day when a round table was organized, were:
1.) It is necessary to inaugurate legal procedure to ratify some very important international conventions relating to the above mentioned problems;
2.) In connection with the ratification of the conventions, internal law will require modifications;
3.) It is necessary to introduce a special fund and organize special services for salvage operations and pollution control, with appropriate equipment and highly skilled crews.
