Abstract

The project aims at presenting the idea of raising the citizens’ awareness of the cultural and art contents needed by the city. The project objectives are encouraging an increase of urban culture and questioning the city’s everyday life; demystification of its present and history in a cultural life context; and wondering about the assets and value of the city through communication with citizens. The final objective is to activate and establish stronger cooperation between cultural and educational institutions. We have detected some problems, which we believe exist in the city, and have hence started organising
workshops. The first one was realised in cooperation with a historical society named Slavonac Exclusive Edition. The objective was to inform the public about the city’s historical misconceptions through wall newspaper media.
The second workshop, named This city needs, was realised through posters captioning the information about imaginary events. It aimed at questioning and encouraging the citizens’ wishes in the context of cultural events.
The objective of the third workshop, entitled Old trades – new trades, was to find out about traditional trades and their place in today’s world.
A survey called Why do you /don’t you like Požega? was carried out in the centre of Požega; it offered several ideas for potential future postcards.
An action called Book in the head tested the reactions of citizens to reading poetry. Our objective was to encourage the possibilities of introducing new ways of entertainment in bars.
By the activity called Let’s go to the old town, we tried to invite people to the old city core, and a concert tried to instigate some future cultural events.
Furthermore, we intended to find out who the true “greats” of our city were. This initiative was called Who is who in our city?
My memories of Požega was the initiative aimed at finding out what the most popular places in our city were.
The purpose of the workshop and campaign entitled Made in Požega was to reveal the names of several people, who contributed greatly to our city, but who do no longer live in Požega. We moreover created a photo board inspired by the traditional annual high school seniors’ photo board.
The whole project was presented in the exhibition Circled, which was mounted to mark the 10th anniversary of KRUG (the Circle).
This project created some new ideas, which might possibly be used as souvenirs in the future, when talented high school students and professional designers, who can offer specific products intended for city promotion, eventually become acknowledged.
