Abstract
This work explores the role of loan capital in the period of transformation from feudal into capi¬talist production relations that was taking place at the turn of the 19th and the 20th centuries. The main features of these processes in Croatia and Slavonia in»uenced Bjelovar-Križevci County as well,which meant a constant shortage of financial resources, weak financial power of the Croatian and Slavonian banks and their inability to finance some important economic activities. Mortgage loans appeared in even bigger number, but they were of small amounts and in this area they could not have the initiating role to start any important economic activity. In all these processes Bjelovar-Križevci County shared the destiny of Croatia and Slavonia without any significant differences.
