Abstract

This paper explores the primary school student’s preferences of the world musics and the Croatian traditional music. As a part of the research a questionnaire and sound questionnaire were administered to 159 pupils attending the third and the seventh grade. The results do not confirm the connection between gender and preferences of the wold musics and the Croatian traditional music. The relationship between age, performing media and tempo and preferences of the world musics and the Croatian traditional music was observed. Although we anticipated that participants preferred the Croatian traditional music because they are familiar with that music, it was found that they showed greater preferences of the world musics. Consequently, the importance of introducing the world musics and the Croatian traditional music in music classes as early as possible is emphasized in the paper.
