Abstract

The job of firefighters belongs to the most stressful occupations. Studies prove that stress has a negative impact on the physical and mental health of firefighters. Exposure to intense stress over a longer period of time may result in various psychological difficulties and develop posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In order to mitigate the consequences of stress exposure after high-risk and potentially traumatic events during fire-fighting interventions, there is a need to provide adequate psychological assistance to firefighters. There is a need to develop a system of psychological assistance that will be available to all firefighters in a simple and fast way. The most important benefit of providing psychological aids is reflected in the prevention of the occurrence of PTSD and suicide in a firefighter population.
