Abstract

In the paper, I clarify terms related to creativity,
innovation, innovations, inventions and patents,
which are often imprecise and misuse in texts and
speech. I point to the interconnection between
the number of patents and the size of GDP in
European countries, with a comment of certain
deviations in some countries. I emphasize the
question of which the name of the inventor
belongs and the examples of history in which
some artists or innovators were called by
inventors, based on their works, even though
they copied other inventions. I am pointing at
the worrying constant decline in the reported
inventions and the patents granted in the last five
years in Croatia.
This decline is so worrisome, ot just because
Croatia is on the list of patents per 10000
employees at the very heart of European
countries, but because history has a large number
of well-known inventors rom this small country
