Abstract

The paper presents the results of research into the spaces of female artistic creation in Croatia in late 19th and during the first half of the 20th century. This was the period of intensified female participation in the world of art, its educational, gallerist and market-related system, in which having one’s working space was an important factor. The starting point for the research was Josip Kovačić’s collection of works of Croatian female artists, itself a representative corpus reflecting the cultural and historical period in question. Here presented findings and interpretations thus complement the knowledge of female artistic creation in Croatia of the period.
