Abstract

Insurance theory defines risk as a future unpredictable event. More recent practice has changed attitudes towards risk in insurance/reinsurance policy, so that risk is more often described as an opportunity. Based on practical experiences, discussion is continuing about six new views and ways of approaching risk.
Risk must be understood. The magnitude and complexity of a risk have changed and are now even growing. The need to control risk is increasing, as is the need for protection against its negative sides, so that risk should be attacked, i.e. constantly pondered over.
In this paper, the author attempts to explain how misunderstanding a risk can be fatal for business. A growing need for protection against the new magnitudes and complexities of risk requires the insurance industry to adjust to new situations. It is very important to check ways of understanding, approaching and working with clients, as only in this way can progress be ensured for all companies that see their future in insurance and reinsurance policies.
