Abstract

Datamatrix 2D code is commonly used in a
wide variety of different industries to store
information about the manufactured product.
Depending on the manufacturing line topology,
there is a risk of downtime due to poor marking
quality of the Datamatrix code. This article
describes an example of mechatronics system for
mark verification of Datamatrix 2D code in the
tobbacco industry. For the better understanding of
this mechatronics system individual components
of the system itself are clarified. Segments of
the 2D Datamatrix code are explained and the
industrial reader which is used to scan the code
is depicted. In various mechatronics systems and
automation processes in general object proximity
detection is often needed. Because of that three
types of commonly used optical proximity
sensors are explained. After explaining the system
components the working principle of the system
is described. The working principle is explained
both in words and using a flowchart.
