Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
Hrvoje Vrčić
Abstract
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is an
acute clinical syndrome connected with the ascending spreading
of microorganisms through the vagina or cervix to the
endometrium, ovaria and surrounding structures. Risk factors
of the pelvic inflammatory disease encompass the majority of
those characteristic for sexual diseases. Further are
described epidemiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis
and treatment of PID. For the timely diagnostics and treatment
of inflammations in the lower genital tract of particular
importance is the prevention of sexual diseases, especially of
infections caused by chlamydia.
