Abstract

Guinea pigs are rodents that should only be used for scientific and educational purposes if they were bred for that purpose. This study is a continuation of the series on the behaviour of mice and rats, and delivers a detailed overview of the peculiarities of guinea pig (Cavia porcellus) behaviour, divided into nine chapters: Maintenance of body hygiene, Feeding behaviour, Rest and sleep, Movement, Territorial behaviour, Reactivity, Behaviour during environmental investigation, Reproductive behaviour, Social behaviour.
