Abstract

This paper presents a review of the legislation governing the establishment of slaughterhouses, meat inspection, meat labelling and the transport of meat and meat products in the period from 1920 to 1989. Furthermore, it presents the slaughter conditions, and conditions of storing of meat and meat products meeting the criteria for human consumption, those assigned as conditionally usable for human consumption, and those assigned for harmless elimination.
In this period, it is evident that such legislation existed in the Kingdom of SHS and SFRJ in both the federal and republic laws and regulations that had to be harmonized. Due to that fact, the present paper presents the laws and regulations in that manner. Due to their extensiveness, some of the laws and regulations are presented only in their most important segments.
