Abstract

Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) is a viral disease that primarily affects goats and sheep. The disease affects the respiratory, digestive and immune systems. It has been present for decades in Africa, and has since spread to Asia and Europe. Recently, PPR was confirmed in the European Union for the first time. PPR is not a zoonotic disease; however, it presents a threat to the international trade of animals and their products and causes economic losses. An attenuated vaccine for prevention is available, though this vaccine is currently not registered on the Croatian market.
