Abstract
The purpose of this research was to determine the level of physical activity which early age children and their parents are engaged in, and based on that, to evaluate the three-month programme for the education of parents on the importance of physical activity. The effect of the programme on the changes in physical activity level was studied on a sample consisting of 142 participants aged 1.5 to 37. To assess the level of physical activity, parts of the standardized questionnaires Health Behaviour for Children and International Physical Activity Questionnaires were used. These are solely related to the intensity and duration of the physical activity. The research lasted for three months, and it included kinesiological workshops, the design of a promotional flyer, as well as organized kinesiological activities with children on a daily basis. The differences in the number of examinees belonging to a certain level of physical activity before and after the completion of the programme were calculated with the Chi-square test. The obtained results showed that children and their parents had made a significant improvement regarding the amount of total physical activity per week after the realisation of the educational programme. The research indicated the importance and influence of parents as models in each child’s life, and it also confirmed that lack of movement should be fought against from the earliest children’s age. This is achievable through various educational programmes which have shown to be efficient and essential.
