Abstract
From the sample of 200, 12 year old pupils, results were registered of the 8 variables used for estimating the functional ability of the cardio-vascular system and the 3 running distances. Canonical correlation analysis yielded only one statistically significant root of 0.41, which means that cardio-vascular functional ability measurements and different running distances had only a 17 percent common variance. The first and only significant pair of canonical dimensions was defined by the 600 m running distance, Harvard step test, the 50 m running distance, the heart frequency at peace and the physical working capacity.
