Abstract
The aim of the research was to determine the situations between anthropometric variables and situational tests of accuracy in volleyball. Therefore 16 anthropometric measurements and the results of 6 situational test were sampled on 189 male volleyball players, 18 to 22 year old, who are members of the 1st and 2th Yugoslav junior volleyball representation team.
The results were analysed using the regression and canonical correlation method and also Hottelling's principal axis method for determining the latent structure of anthropometric measurements and of situational variables.
Orthoblique transformation of significant principal axes in anthropometric measurements yielded only one, poorly defined volleyball situational accuracy factor.
Regression analysis showed that the situational accuracy tests can be predicted on the basis of anthropometric measurements, except for the accuracy of serving.
Also multiple correlation between the situational accuracy factor and the three anthropometric factors was significant.
In the results of all regression analyses the longitudional and voluminosity were positively correlated and the subcutaneous fat measurements were negatively correlated with the situational accuracy.
Two significant canonical correlations were obtained and the relations between the first and between the second pair of canonical dimensions could easily be explained. In the first case situational tests, including jumping higher that the height of the volleyball net, were connected with the measurement of longitudinal and voluminosity body characteristics, and in the second case, situational tests performed on the ground, were connected with measurement of arm voluminosity (active muscular mass) and length of hand, together with the distance between teh elbows.
According to the results obtained anthropometric variables could be used for the orientation and selection of volleyball players.
