Abstract

The structural difference between motor abilities of men and women was analysed. For this purpose a sample of 390 women and 340 men was selected, both samples representing Yugoslav population aged 17. Motor abilities were assessed by means of 37 motor tests.
Within the structure of female motor abilities four factors were isolated:
- the mechanism for regulation of excitation intensity
- the mechanism for movement structuring
- the mechanism for synergic and tonus regulation
- the mechanism for regulation of movements.
Within the structure of male motor abilities five factors were isolated:
- the explosive strength
- the static and repetitive strength
- the speed frequency
- balance
- flexibility.
This value of the congruence coefficients indicates that isolated factors representing latent structures of motor abilities are similar bit not the same.
The obtained results indicate that women and men differ in the structure of motor abilities, i.e. qualitatively, and they should suggest new aspects of research with experiments in which the subjects are not an exclusive part of the population. Only such a was will it be possible to retain or modify the existing hierarchic model of motor abilities and generalize it for the entire population.
