Abstract

Herbicide glyphosate (N‐phosphonomethy glicine) has been registrated in Croatia since 1978. This was four years after Monsanto introduced Round‐up for the first time in USA. Today, 21 formulated products are used for weed control in agricultural and non‐agricultural areas in Croatia. According statistical analysis (database of Phytosanitary Information System), glyphosate is the most commercially used pesticide in Croatia. The use of glyphosate in the period 2012‐2017 varied beetwen 217‐300 t which is 12‐15% of all pesticides, or 27‐37% all sold herbicides in the pesticide market. Globally, glyphosate is mostly used pesticide. Total worlwide glyphosate use in agricultural and nonagricultural areas in 2014 was 826 mil.t. The aim of this paper is to review the process of the renewal of the glyphosate active supstance which was conducted by EFSA and relevant European Research institutions in the period from 2012 to 2017.
