Abstract

The plants of the Cucurbitaceae family are especially susceptible to certain phytopathogenic bacteria. Under favourable, warm and moist, weather conditions for disease development, economic losses can be substantial due to the appearance and poor quality of the fruit. In Croatia, cucurbit production has not been severely compromised by bacterial diseases. However, influence of climate change combined with intensive trade of plant material represent real threat from pathogen introductions including phytophatogenic bacteria and may result in unprecedented effects. This article briefly describes major bacterial diseases of cucurbit plants with special accent on their symptoms, epidemiology and control measures.
