Abstract

During 1998, the Zadar Archaeological Museum conducted archaeological research on the church of St. Cosmas and Damian in Polača. The earliest horizon on the site is represented by the remains of an antique complex which existed from the 1st to the 7th century. It seems that over the ancient ruins, in the 11th century, a church was built around which a cemetery was formed at the end of the 13th century at the latest. The church was expanded and annexed on two occasions, probably in the mid-18th and early 19th century. The analysis of the graves reveals specific changes in the method of burial, which occurred over time.
