Abstract

At the present level of technological development measuring mass precisely is rather simple. Was it always so? When we speak about measuring mass we immediately think of using scales, but a lot of time was to pass before the right kind of scales were made. Although scales have existed as an instrument for more than three thousand years, they were not always precise, particularly not as they are today when even
ordinary mechanical scales have precision of up to four decimals. Showing coin mass through Roman monetary reforms approximately shows how precisely people could weigh 2000 years ago.
