Abstract
Although it is known that the occurrence of plant diseases vary in different seasons, several unusual, unexpected or new diseases have been recorded in Croatia during 2019. Frequent occurrence of diseases caused by Rhizoctonia solani on various hosts was noted, among which the first record on immortelle (Helichrysum italicum) can be mentioned. During May and June, a severe occurrence of soft rots caused by Erwinia (Pectobacterium) has been recorded on onion, potato and maize. The severity of sugar beet root rot (Aphanomyces cochlioides) was much higher than usual. Root rot and decline caused by Macrophomina phaseolina on strawberry has been recorded for the first time in Croatia. Tropical pathogen Sclerotium rolfsii has been found on tomato, pepper and zucchini. Root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) are emerging on carrot, parsley and celery crops, while bacterial leaf spot (Xanthomonas campestris pv. vitians) has been recorded on lettuce in Zagreb County. Black rot (Guignardia bidwellii) unexpectedly caused damage in several vineyards in North-Western Croatia, a region where this disease was almost unknown.
