Abstract

The latent structure of 20 measures of movement coordination was analyzed with regard to three criterion variables chosen so as to enable the estimation of the efficiency of functioning of the perceptive, parallel and serial processor. The results of the criterion oriented factor analysis were compared with the results of the standard procedure for determining latent dimensions, defined by orthoblique factors within the component model.
The criterion oriented analysis has shown that the functions of the serial and parallel processor considerably participate in the same structure in a lesser extent. However, all criterion oriented latent dimensions of coordination were very close to the latent dimension of the second order which could without difficulty be interpreted as the general cognitive factor.
The latent structure of measured of coordination of movements, derived independently of criterion dimensions, was just the same considerably different from the one achieved by the analysis directed toward the cognitively defined factors of coordination.
