Abstract

This process has different shapes with the first generation of Czech immigrants after 1860, and with the later waves after 1948 and 1968.The early newcomers adapted their Czech names mostly by omitting diacritic signs and assimilating their pronunciation to the local usage. Later newcomers did not avoid more radical changes, exceptionally even translations into English.
