Abstract

This paper explains the concept of 3D model of the city as well as the ways and reasons for optimizing the 3D cartographic representation through the model of the city of Krk. The process of making a 3D model for the needs of visualization of the city of Krk and comparison of the city model depending on the level of detail – LOD (Level of Detail) is described. The complete modelling process is explained, from site selection, data collection, source selection, modelling and visualization software selection, city model making, and model analysis. Problems and solutions in modelling 3D cities are also explained, as well as their advantages and similar examples of previous 3D cities. As a practical example, a 3D model of the city of Krk was made.
