Abstract

The Croatian folk mass from Lanišée (Istria) was being introduced and accepted in the course of the last century by the vicar Josip Orbanié on the basis of old songs which had preserved its clear old characteristic in the parts of »Glory« and »Belief«, where the architectonics of the socalled »lstrian scale« can be felt.
The above mentioned vicar came to Lanišée in 1870. According to some people's remembrance this folk mass started to be sung from 1884 (almost one century). The mass contains the ancient basis exposed to the influences of the town song (especially in the F-major parts), although the greatest part of it contains psalmody with very narrow intervals ("Glory«, »Belief«). That reflects a certain kind of rustic characleristic. Other parts contain all the characteristics of the Mediterranean singing.
