Abstract
The paper deals with the problem of The Posthumous Trilogy’s genre, underlining the author’s typical techniques in approaching the eternally sensitive subject. Although determinable as dramas of war trauma, Matišić’s texts are accessed using traditional genre models. The drama The Sons Die First is viewed through the lenses of the popular piece, tragicomedy, grotesque and tragedy, while the focus in the analysis of the dramas Woman Without a Body and No Man’s Son is on the genre of civic drama. In addition to the analysis of theme and motif as determinants of the texts, the work addresses the relationship between literature and reality in the modern age, the author’s tendency to use black humor and the play with patriarchal, Catholic and patriotic heritage.
