Abstract

The author starts this paper from the fact that the genre od puppetry is very hard to define because of the broad spectrum of its possibilities. Firstly she mentions different genres of puppetry that were emerging in the history of puppetry, with a special reference to the changes that occurred at the beginning of the twentieth century. She distinguishes genres of the practitioners Erik Kòlar and Jan Malik. Croatian puppetry of today’s form is created after the Second World War so the author talks about the development of expression in puppetry and genre changes in the fifties and in the sixties. In that time »the third kind«, as Henry Jurkowski said, started to come into being because the third actor started to appear on the scene. In the last part of this paper the author synthesizes the changes that have occurred in the classical puppetry by using example of Zadar Puppet Theatre 2017/18 and 2018/19. She determines by genre the literary template on which the performances were made, and also determines the attitude of a live actor towards a puppet for the reason that it is the actor who took over the scene today.
