Abstract

News agencies are still necessary and no serious newspaper can deny that. It is
recommended for newspapers to use at lest two news agencies as sources – one
national and one international. Vjesnik uses Hina and Reuters. The daily newspapers
especially values the General news service (OSV) which covers every
event in Croatia. It is necessary because our correspondent net does not cover
every part of the sate. Vjesnik is a national daily and has no ambition to keep up
with its national and regional rivals in the correspondents net. Still, we are working
on widening and enlargement of the number of our correspondents.
OSV severs to Vjesnik for covering all events which we can not or do not with
to cover, and at the same time it is a check-up system for our journalists. Daily
newspapers and news agencies in a way share the same destiny. They struggle to be the first ones to bring the important news. Even weeklies like Globus and Nacional
are published with last minute changes in order to bring the latest news.
Internet portals, cell phone news, Breaking news on TV and radio stations are hard
to compete with. Still, there is no danger that the daily newspapers and news
agencies in the future might disappear from the information market, just like TV
did not kill the radio or film industry.
