Abstract

Trial archaeological excavation was performed in 2019 in the
area of the building formerly occupied by the Poreč chapter of the
Caritas organisation and of the west wing of the late baroque
period Corner palace, in the northeast end of the protected
historical core of the city of Poreč. The archaeological work was
performed ahead of the planned reconstruction and re-purposing
of these now integrated buildings. A segment of the late antique
city wall was identified, atop which the medieval line of wall lies,
as were segments of late antique architecture. An overview of the
results of the archaeological investigation is accompanied by a
review of the urban development of this part of the city during
the periods to which the finds and the preserved architecture are
dated, and by an overview of select artefacts.
