Preparation of a-alkyl-glycerols

Abstract

Ohly a certain number of homologues of the normal a-alkyl-glycerols such as a-methyl- and a-ethyl-glycerol are known at present. The first is obtained by boiling 2 ,3-dibromo-butanol-1 with water and the second by the oxidation of ethyl-vinyl-carbinol with potassium permanganate.
