Genealogy in the service of onomastics

Abstract

Following demographic research into surnames of the Dubrovnik region, the author puts forward etiologically substantiated explanations of surname corruptions, such as present in the forms: Antičević (: Antićević), Rozalić (: Raosalić), Mihlinić (:Milihnić), Krivelja (according to French surname Crevelier), Paković/ Poković (: Pavko), Kola/Kolić (: Nikola); Vatović (: *Vahatović < Vlahatović), Žukin (: Župkin) < Župa), Mrdalo (according to Italian surname Martelletti), etc.
