Azithromycin Role in Acne Vulgaris Treatment

Abstract
Acne vulgaris is a polyetiologic disease that
affects 80 - 85 % of adolescents. It is also one of the most
frequent skin diseases. This article provides clinical studies
which have over the years proven the effi cacy and safety of
azithromycin in the treatment of papulopustular acne. In this
type of acne, the total recommended dose of azithromycin is
6.0 g administered over 10 weeks, i.e. 1x 500 mg per day over
three days in the fi rst week, and 1x 500 mg per week over the
next nine weeks.
