Abstract
Injuries in contact karate may occur due to opponent's blows or blockades, the fighter's own blows and blockades, poorly carried out techniques and poor fighting conditions.
Bearing in mind frequency and gravity, injuries can be divided into lacerocontusions, contusions, hemorrhages and hematomas, distorsions, ruptures, subluxations and luxations, fractures and craniocerebral injuries.
Frequent occurence of injuries and their gravity in contact karate points out the necessity to use adequate safety gear in order to reduce the number of injuries and their effect onsportsmen's health.
