Abstract

ABSTRACT
Epidemiology and mechanisms of injury of anterior
cruciate ligament in skiers are unique and mostly different
from others sports. Although skiing injury rate in
general has virtually decreased over the last four decades,
at the same time, the rate of the knee, particularly anterior
cruciate ligament injury has dramatically increased.
Nowadays, it is estimated that half of all money spending
for medical treating of all skiing injuries are going
for the treating anterior cruciate ligament rupture.
Correctly adjusted bindings and adequate educational
program which is focused on prevention of the knee
injury can significantly reduce skier’s knee. The elementary
strategy of the education is to prepare every skier to
recognize and adequately respond when find herself/
himself in typical mechanism of a high risk fall, potentially
dangerous for anterior cruciate ligament injury.
