Abstract

It has been confirmed in studies and experience of coaches that teams made up of outstanding individuals need not necessarily achieve high results. Important indicators for each sports expert, along with others, are relations within the team interconnections among players themselves.
The aim of this work is the analysis of micro-social structure of a top volleyball team before and immediately after participation in an important international tournament in which they had achieved good results. The sociometric analysis of the sample of 14 players on the same team was performed through application of six criteria:
1. Name the players with whom you would like to share a room on trips and during preparations (K1);
2. Name the players you would trust with your personal problems (K2);
3. Name the players with whom you cooporate best in play (K3);
4. Name the players who are so good at volleyball that you would at any moment ask to advice of them (K4);
5. Name the players suitable to represent the team in the management of the club (K5);
6. Name the players you consider deserving to be elected delegates in physical culture organizations (K6).
The results were treated by the HAYWAN program. The matrix of scalar products of vectors in the first and second selection showed similar results. The three oldest and most experienced players secured the largest number of votes. In the first selection, using this algorithm, three taxonomic dimensions (F1, F2, and F3) were extracted, while in teh second only two were extracted (F1 and F2). The relation between oblimin solution shows that the first and the this solutions have merged, while the second remained almost unaltered. The first taxon defines players according to the functional and functional-selfmanaging criterion, while the second defines them according to the emotional and functional criterion.
It may be said that successful result has had to a positive effect upon the micro-social structure of the team. The number of existing groups decreased from three to two, related by a functional criterion.
