Abstract

The scarcity of precious metals in the earth’s crust necessitates finding secondary sources to fulfil the increasing demand for these metals. For example, a secondary source of precious metals can be made available through the metallurgical recovery of metals from electronic waste. However, conventional commercialized methods have limitations and can result in potential harm to the environment. Flotation, ionic liquids and chelating are the latest developments in this research area. This concise review entails the following: - The worth of metals in e-waste, - The current methodologies of recovering metals from the e-waste, - Current research on the efficiency of environmentally friendly reagents

Keywords

metal recovery; e-waste; chelating; flotation; hydro/pyro metallurgy
