Abstract

The study analyzed the relations 17 anthropometric measures and 16 motor tests aiming to assess the explosive strength: jumps, throws, blows and sprints. The investigation was carried out on a sample of 401 female students in Osijek, 1981/82.
Considering the fact that anthropometric characteristics are relevant for results in motor variables, the redundancy analysis was suggested defining under the generalized image model the latent structure of anthropometric dimensions in space of motor and the structure of latent motor dimensions (i. e. explosive strength) in the space of anthropometric. The obtained redundancy factors were transformed into the oblimin position and by means of crossfactorization and crosscorelation the interpretation was made possible of the relations between these two groups of variables.
In both spaces three latent dimensions, i. e. redundancy factors were obtained that can be interpreted as: longitudinal dimensionality, voluminosity and transversal dimensionality: the variables of explosive strength were grouped into these redundancy factors : high jump, sprints and jumps, and throws. The structure of latent dimensions does not correspond to the fenomenological grouping of the tests but it indicates the division of explosive strength into relative (jumps and sprints) and absolute (throws and blows) explosive strength differentiating between the tests where the inertia of the body is to be overcome or where some other resistance is overcome.
The study of relations between the anthropometric and motor variables as well as the relations between latent dimensions, i. e. redundancy factors, it may be concluded that these two spaces are in very complex interrelations, i. e. an anthropometric characteristics can be both predictors and suppressors of manifestations of various motor abilities, in these case of explosive strength differentiating between the tests where the inertia of the body is to be overcome or where some other resistance is overcome.
The results in high jump mostly depended upon the longitudinal dimensionality but also the transversal dimensionality which are, due to integral growth and skeleton development, in significant correlation. The results of tests involving throws depend not only on these two dimensions of the body but also the voluminosity of the since these tests involve the explosive strength on the absolute type. Biomechanically it can be explained that in throwing inertia of the body itself is used.
Due to the specific body build of women and the ratio between the ballast adipose and the active muscle mass, the voluminosity of the body thwarts the achievement o f good results in jumps and sprint where the relative explosive strength is manifested and where the inertia of the body has to overcome.
