Abstract

Headaches and migraines are encountered every day in family medicine practice. Half of patients with headaches and migraines self-medicate, and if the symptoms become more expressed, they report to a family doctor. About 10% of patients will complete a specialist examination, and 1% will require a multidisciplinary approach. A comprehensive anamnestic examination supplemented with a headache diary will help determine the type of headache and the direction of treatment.
