Abstract

Dengue is acute infectious disease characterized by fever, headache, rash and myalgia caused by any of four distinct viruses of the genus Flavivirus. Two main vectors for dengue viruses are mosquitoes: Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. Dengue has become one of the most important emerging disease problems among international travelers. In the recent years, Croatia appeared as the famous and prestigious tourist destination with more and more tourists each year, especially during the summer. Croatia is not endemic for dengue viruses. However, recently discovered presence (2004.) of Ae. albopictus in Croatia, as well as two imported cases of dengue in 2007., seek considerable alert of public health and other medical professionals in Croatia.
