Abstract

In the garment sewing industry the workers spend most of the working hours sitting. There is an evident unfavourable relationship between man, machine and the environment. Workplaces such as these show a high degree of strain on the spine. It is a natural consequence of the long hours of forced sitting. Workers perform short, repetitive operations that quickly result in fatigue. Introduction of ergonomic principles to improve the setup of the workplace can help to avoid or at least reduce the health problems ensuing from prolonged sitting.

Keywords
