Abstract
Digital and printed three-dimensional (3D) anatomical models are increasingly used in education. The aim of this study was to improve the teaching and to introduce new methods of organ representation of domestic and wild animals. To create a digital and printed 3D model of bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus), we used the heart of bottlenose dolphin from a collection held by the Department of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zagreb. CT scan of a heart was needed to create a digital 3D model by using the „3D Slicer” program. Afterwards, the model was printed using the Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) method. The digital model was processed in a computer program FinalMesh, what allowed us to label anatomical structures of the heart. The model can be seen free of charge on the website of the Faculty of the Veterinary Medicine, University of Zagreb (http://wwwi.vef.hr/3datlas/srce/).
