Feminine forms of proper nouns in Slovene language: naming residents

Abstract

The paper presents a word-formational analysis of 2420 feminine forms of naming residents. The results show that 1849 (76 %) are derived by adding the feminine suffix to the masculine form and 571 (24 %) with the change of masculine suffix. The most frequently used feminine suffix is -ka with 2331 words (96 %; Slovenka), followed by -inja with 65 words (3 %; Rusinja) and -ica with 20 (0,8 %; Hrvatica); feminine suffixes -ca (Črnovršca), -kinja (Srbkinja), -anka (Povolžanka) and -evka (Majevka) are represented by one specific case each.
