Abstract

Tall buildings are mostly sensitive to wind loads and the effect of wind varies in accordance with the location, shape and height of the building. It is of utmost importance to have an aerodynamically modified building in order to reduce the wind loads on tall buildings. For the present study, a sequence of wind tunnel tests was carried out for the different building of various forms such as Pentagon, T, C and L. This paper focuses on finding the aerodynamic coefficient which includes drag, lift and torsional moment coefficients. The wind tunnel is operated at a wind velocity of 10 m/s and the building models are tested for different wind angles 0˚, 45˚, 90˚, 135˚ and 180˚. From the test results, it is concluded that pentagon plan shape building performs better than other shapes against aerodynamics forces.
