Abstract
The application of the steganographic method InfraReDesign in the production of nautical charts with the possibility of hiding and / or separating information content creates new perspectives. The proposed implementation is based on three perspectives: counterfeit protection, technological and information perspective. The information display area extends to the near-infrared part of the spectrum. The InfraReDesign technology enables the control of the “visibility” of information on nautical charts by applying colours that have different spectral properties. The introduction of a new colour system and the application of hidden image technology enable the separation of information content on several levels.Hidden information that is not visible in the visual part of the spectrum becomes available using a near-infrared detection and observation device. Likewise, information may be visible in both parts, or visible in the visual, and invisible in the near-infrared part of the spectrum. The multilevel perspective of hiding and separating is completely a new way of interpreting information, which has not been used in the practice of hydrographic offices in the world, so far. In the proposed way, the so-called “augmented reality” is introduced on nautical charts.
