Abstract

The problem of abandoned and lost pets is present everywhere in the world. Shelters for animals are used for their temporary care with the aim of protection and finding the owners and possible foster parents as soon as possible. Despite the existence of such shelters, the time required to adopt animals is still long. This is most often caused by the slow and insufficiently efficient flow of data between shelters, owners, and potential foster parents. In order to partially solve this problem, we decided to create an information system with an application, a database, and a publicly available web service for data exchange. In this way, we have consolidated all relevant data in one (centralized) location and enabled their sharing to everyone. We believe that this will largely solve the problem of slow and inefficient data flow, and that as a result we will have easier and faster adoption of animals as well as finding owners in case of lost animals.
