Abstract

The results of a somatic examination of 305 pupils of the juvenile age show that
the posture deviations occur relatively often in these children. It has been established by
using discriminative procedures that children are characterized by different indicators of the
poor posture according to their gender. The poor posture can be avoided or prevented by
using the exercise programmes that should be done with methodical correctness.
Using the stepwise regression analyses on the both samples of the pupils a significant
connection of the group of predictor variables with the criterion variable (scoliosis) has been
established. One by one, the most important predictor in defining scoliosis in the group of
male pupils is shown by the indicator of the asymmetry of the epigastric angle, and in the
group of female pupils the predictors are: the asymmetry of the Lorenz's triangle and the
asymmetry of the epigastric angle, and much less, but still significantly present, the
asymmetry of the shoulder-blades. Other predictors that are present in the equation are
separately small and as such have no important influence on the scoliotic spine.
The results obtained in this research significantly contribute to the diagnostic and
clinical practice, because based on them the influence of the progression of the scoliotic spine
on the development of certain poor posture indicators can be better observed and predicted.
