FEMININE LEADERSHIP STYLE– EMPIRICAL RESEARCH ABOUT THE PRIMARY HOLDERS IN CROATIAN ENTERPRISES
Nina Pološki
Abstract
There were two main purposes of this article. Firstly, it was to define the characteristics of the feminine, modern leadership style as an opposite to the masculine, traditional leadership style. Secondly, it was to determine who are the primary holders of the feminine leadership style in Croatian enterprises. The result of the desk research are following characteristics of the feminine leadership style: democratic leadership style, cooperation, highly developed interpersonal skills, encouraging participation, charismatic power, sharing of power and information, enhancing self-worth of others, energizing others, setting positive example and teamwork. As opposite, characteristics of the masculine leadership style are autocratic leadership style, competition, formal power, instrumental attitude toward employees and criticism. Empirical research conducted on 513 employees in the city of Zagreb, capital of Croatia, in late 1999, showed that the great majority of respondents think that although men use participative leadership style as well, women are those who are the primary holdersof the feminine leadership style.
