Abstract

This study is based on an empirical analysis of all animal proverbs mentioned in the collection of Egyptian proverbs by Taymour. The analysis is both quantitative as well as qualitative. The total number of animal proverbs in the collection has reached a percentage of nearly 14% which indicates their importance. The analysis also categorises the animals according to their frequency. Another aim consists of analysing the portrayal of animals in the proverbs. The analysis lists the features given to the animals. Furthermore, the study tried to answer the question if a possible tie exists between the different kinds of animals and the positive or negative features given to them.
